Cinderella’s Magic Pumpkin Play-doh Surprise Egg

Feepy and I (mom) met some friends to see the new Cinderella movie over spring break.  I thought it was absolutely beautiful.  To me, the sweet romance between Cinderella and Prince Charming was as magical as the big scene with the fairy godmother.  Feepy, who was not so interested in the dancing and happily-ever-after kiss, was mesmerized by the special effects when the pumpkin turns into the carriage.  When it came time for us to check out the Disney Princess Horse & Carriage, we knew we wanted to incorporate a pumpkin into our play scene for our YouTube toy review.

We crafted a big Play-doh surprise egg into a pumpkin to set up and open before taking a turn with the Disney toy set and doll.  Inside the surprise egg we discovered some cute trinkets: a Minnie Mouse Yazzle, a Littlest Pet Shop blind bag, and a Hello Kitty bubble necklace.

We had already set up Cinderella with her horse and carriage.  The toys looked absolutely stunning on our little video soundstage.  The horse and carriage are well made and roll easily.  It’s a little tricky to get Cinderella inside the carriage because of her crown.  Cinderella’s glass slippers slide on and off very easily, which is important for story reenactments.  The set would make a lovely addition to any Disney Princess collection!

Let’s do this! Opening Superhero Play-doh Surprise Eggs

The boys usually get some TV time after dinner and bath. They look forward to their quiet time, and they usually keep to themselves for a little while. But last night, mom sat down to make Superhero Play-doh eggs, and the boys quickly left their places in the recliners to check out the fun.

We took some inspiration from other Youtube creators who have modeled similar eggs. There are some really great Play-doh surprise egg videos out there, and we’re continuing to experiment to find our own groove. The little one was eager to sit next to mom so that he could roll some dough while watching a video of 100 egg reveals. Feepy stood by to provide artistic feedback.

We debated whether to put this video together last night since it’s testing week at school and we need to ensure Feepy is getting restful sleep. But, the eggs came along quickly, so mom took the little one to bed while dad and Feepy moved to the studio (aka the playroom). Feepy slapped on his Lightening McQueen wrist band, “Let’s Do This!” He really had loosened up and had such a good time.

Check out his video:

We’re glad we stuck with our video production plan. Our goal is to upload at least one video per day to grow our channel. And Feepy revealed a surprise toy that he’d been hoping to get: the Lego Minifigures Series 13 Carpenter. That’s a good end to a long day of standardized assessments.

Barbie Flippin’ Pup Pool!

As the mom to two boys, the most exciting part about starting a toy review channel on YouTube is the fact that we’re also reviewing (and playing with) girl toys!  In the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to play with friends’ little girls and my sweet niece, but there hasn’t been much demand for dolls, kitties, princesses, or pinks and purples in my home.  Having said that, my boys had almost as much fun as I did playing with the Barbie Flippin’ Pup Pool!

This super cute playset from Mattel is part of the Chelsea doll’s world collection.  It includes Chelsea, wearing a heart-patterned swimsuit, a yellow duck tube float, and she’s holding a pink dolphin toy that squirts water.  Accompanying Chelsea are her dog Taffy and two puppies.  The toys each add their own fun stunts to the playground, which includes the pup pool, a big slide, and a diving board.  Taffy performs a flip worthy of 10 points from the slide.  The other puppies can ride their dog-bone floaty down the slide or jump off the diving board.  Chealsea can slide down the slide herself, but she required us to hold her while jumping off the diving board, as the doll cannot stand up by herself, which is typical for Barbie dolls.  My boys loved playing with the two smaller puppies because they are squirt toys.

We also had a Kira doll, sold separately, join the pool party. Kira wears a purple and teal swimsuit and she has a purple whale tube float.   Her hair is styled in adorable thick pigtails.  The Chelsea doll’s world series also includes one other dolls for add-on.

The three friends are also sold as a set.

My boys and I played with this playset for hours.  We sent Batman down the slide.  Some SickBricks jumped off the diving board.  Other guest appearances included:  Shopkins, Hello Kitty, and My Little Pony.  You name it, if we had the figurine, we flipped it!

We finally cleaned up and set out all the toys to dry in time for dinner.  The boys kept asking to play more, but I had to explain that the Barbie Flippin’ Pup Pool is prize pack #1 for our latest giveaway.  LINK TO GIVEAWAY HERE  I promised them that we’d have more Barbie toys to play in the future!  Yay for girl toys!

Monsters, Inc. Sulley Egg Surprise! Huevos Sorpresa!

Hey!  This is Feepy at Toy Toons Reviews.  I just opened my first play-doh egg.  My mom made a Sulley from Monsters, Inc.  I watched her make it, too.  Well, after she hid the prizes inside.  She used a stuffed Sulley to get an idea how he looks.  I think he turned out pretty awesome. Later she made a Mike wazowski, and I made the little horns for him.

Then I got to open the Sulley for a surprise egg video.  Pulling apart the play-doh pieces was fun.  When I got down to the plastic egg, I could already tell there were Lego minifigures inside.  Booyah!  And they were actually Series 13 which is awesome because I don’t have any of those yet.  Plus there was a Sickbricks bag.  He was Hiro Thunderbutt.  That’s a new one for me.

I got 5 of the Series 13 Lego minifigures.  I looked them up for the official names: Galaxy trooper, alien trooper, evil wizard, classic king, and goblin.  I hope I can find all the rest: Snake charmer, lady cyclops, paleontologist, carpenter, hotdog man, Sheriff, samurai, disco diva, sensor, unicorn girl, Egyptian warrior.  I was stoked to get 5 out of 5 with no duplicates.

Are you a Lego collector?  We have a giveaway for some Series 12 and Simpsons.  Check it out:

The Big Chocolate Bunny Surprise

The Big Chocolate Bunny Surprise was a crazy, fun family effort.  We set out to experiment with creating our own Easter – Spring – themed treat, something even bigger than the surprise egg phenomenon.

Finding a jumbo, hollow chocolate bunny proved to be an all-day effort. Our local Walgreens and Wal-mart only carried the 18 oz variety.  Thankfully, CVS had one 32 oz Palmer Big Binks in stock!  We estimated that 7 blind bags of trinkets would fit inside.  Back to Walgreens for the best selection of mystery items.   Walgreens was heavy on the boy blind bags:  Minecraft minifigures, Star Wars Fighter Pods Micro Heroes, Lego Minifigures.  We found a few items that would appeal to girls:  Despicable Me Minion Surprise, My Little Pony minifigure, and a Lego Friends set that ultimately didn’t fit inside the bunny.

To create the masterpiece, we laid out the bunny on  a cutting board.  We heated a heavy-duty steel chef knife over a stove-top flame.  Starting from the ears, we slid the knife down along the side-seams from the bunny’s factory assembly.  We went about half-way down the top part of the bunny before the knife had cooled.  We wiped the knife clean and heated it over the flame again.  Then we completed slicing the bunny to the bowtie and separated the two halves of his head.  We repeated this procedure for the bottom half of the bunny.  We carefully wiped away some melted chocolate from inside the bunny, making sure not to wipe the seams.  We quickly placed the blind bags inside the hollow bunny and replaced the bottom half.  The chocolate adhered very well.  We stood up the bunny and replaced his head.  Whew!  It worked.  The bunny was back in one piece.  (We had a few shards fall off the back side, but nothing major.)  We did our best to buff off fingerprints with a paper towel.  Try not to touch the bunny’s face.

Next we held our breath as we moved the bunny into the video studio for his Youtube premier:

The kids had a blast watching the chocolate bunny get dismantled and the revealing of the toys.  They had been “waiting their whole lives” for a Minecraft minifigure.  Fights have ensued over the Creeper.  One kid thought the bunny was cute.  One kid thought he looked creepy, but he also called dibs on eating the eyes.  The chocolate is not the tastiest, but there was something fun about eating a few bites after all the effort.  We’re not sure how well our crafting efforts fit into today’s Pinterest landscape, but this was a really fun project and a surprise that your kids are sure to love.

Marvel Mashers Hulk vs Spider-Man

Marvel Super Hero Mashers are a cool new set of action figures from Hasbro. There are about 40 figures for you to mash up body parts and accessories to create your own superhero. In this episode the Spider-man figure will battle Hulk. Spiderman is easy to manipulate, but popping on the head is difficult. He does need more accessories to make him a stronger superhero. Hulk has a cool weapon pack but it doesn’t do anything. The missile launch function works well. All in all, Hulk’s power and better weaponry make him the stronger Marvel Super Hero Masher. Hulk wins!

For Spider-man to be a contender, he needs a mash-up with another super hero, or try one of these upgraded figures:

Marvel Mashers Wolverine vs Thor

Marvel Super Hero Mashers are a cool new set of action figures from Hasbro. There are about 40 figures for you to mash up body parts and accessories to create your own superhero. In this episode the Thor figure will battle wolverine. Thor has a lot of detail in his accessories: a spiffy cape, armor pieces, a hammer, and a hammer launcher. There are so many possibilities to strategize with Thor, plus he’s got a lot of gear worthy of a mash-up. Wolverine’s claws are sturdy and nice, and it’s fun to move around the two sword accessories. The battle is basically fair. Thor vs Wolverine is a tie!
